MUSEO DEGLI ANTICHI MESTIERI IN BICICLETTA “LAVORANDO PEDALANDO”

Attraversando la Porta San’Antonio si accede al centro storico di Massa Fermana e, sulla via che conduce alla Chiesa, troviamo il Museo degli antichi mestieri in bicicletta. Il mondo del lavoro oltre un secolo fa era caratterizzato da strumenti di lavoro poco sofisticati, ma la passione e la bravura degli artigiani riuscivano a dare vita a manufatti di grande pregio. Il museo ha un fascino evocativo di un mondo del passato, che non esiste più e che apparteneva ai nostri nonni: una raccolta di pezzi rari che raccontano i mestieri ambulanti del fiorente piccolo artigianato locale.

Bruno Rastelli è il curatore di questo museo che venne istituito per dare spazio alla memoria degli antichi mestieri in bicicletta e conservare molti oggetti e tanti aneddoti raccontati col sorriso negli occhi. Ci accompagna in un viaggio nel tempo fino alle nostre origini.

Artigiani, barbieri, orologiai e maniscalchi utilizzavano la bicicletta per lo svolgimento dei loro mestieri ambulanti nella prima metà del XX secolo fino agli Anni Sessanta: è necessario tramandare la memoria di queste tradizioni per conservare l’identità collettiva di questa piccola e ricca comunità. Lo spirito del museo è quello di mostrare una testimonianza parlante dei mestieri antichi che un tempo venivano svolti dalle comunità locali.

Il Museo Lavorando Pedalando ospita circa 80 mestieri attraverso le 80 biciclette da lavoro attrezzate per svolgere gli antichi mestieri artigianali e ambulanti: dall’arrotino al fabbro, dal ciabattino al sarto. Le biciclette trasportavano tutto l’occorrente per lo svolgimento dei mestieri con creatività e laboriosità, per soddisfare la necessità di realizzare lavori a “regola d’arte” da tramandare di padre in figlio con i pochi mezzi a disposizione.

Questo territorio è abitato da una popolazione laboriosa, ricca di inventiva, che ha saputo dar vita a un artigianato di lunga tradizione e valore soprattutto nella produzione dei cappelli. Il museo narra la storia recente del XX secolo e include anche tante altre curiosità che raccontano l’ingegno e la fatica dei nostri nonni. Le tre sale del museo ospitano, oltre alle biciclette attrezzate per gli antichi mestieri ambulanti, anche una collezione di moto, di biciclette da corsa e da passeggio, per uomo, donna e bambino, una collezione di radio e grammofoni, ferri da stiro, oggetti che raccontano la storia della illuminazione, e non solo.

Walking through Porta Sant’Antonio you enter the old town of Massa Fermana and, on the road that leads to the Church, there is the Museo degli Antichi Mestieri in Bicicletta (Museum of Ancient Crafts by Bike). More than a century ago you used to work with unsophisticated tools, but the passion and skill of the craftsmen managed to give life to highly valuable artefacts. The museum has an evocative charm of a past world, which no longer exists and which belonged to our grandparents: a collection of rare pieces that tell the story of the itinerant trades of the flourishing small local handicrafts.

Bruno Rastelli is the curator of this museum which was set up to gather memories of the ancient trades by bike and preserve many objects and many anecdotes told with a smile in his eyes. He accompanies us on a journey through time to our origins.

Artisans, barbers, watchmakers and blacksmiths used the bicycle to carry out their itinerant trades in the first half of the 20th century until the 1960s: it is necessary to remind these traditions in order to preserve the collective identity of this small and rich community. The spirit of the museum is to show a testimony of the ancient crafts that were once carried out by the local communities.

The Museum Lavorando Pedalando shows about 80 trades through the 80 work bicycles equipped to carry out the ancient artisan and itinerant trades: from the knife grinder to the blacksmith, from the cobbler to the tailor. Bicycles carried everything that was needed to carry out the trades with creativity and industriousness, to satisfy the need to carry out work in a “state of the art” to be handed down from father to son with the few means that were available.

This territory is inhabited by an industrious population, rich in inventiveness, which has been able to give life to a craft of long tradition and value above all in the production of hats. The museum narrates the recent history of the 20th century and also includes many other curiosities that tell of the ingenuity and hard work of our grandparents. In addition to the bicycles equipped for ancient itinerant trades, the three rooms of the museum also house a collection of motorcycles, racing and touring bicycles for men, women and children, a collection of radios and gramophones, irons, objects that tell the story of lighting, and more.
